Excerpts from Max Allen, Food and Wine, Weekend Australian, October 24-25, 2009
I really must stop asking for feedback from readers: it seems too many of you are using it as an excuse to indulge in one or two too many glasses of vino. And we can't have that now, can we?
A couple of months ago I asked for suggestions for your Dream Team of Australian wine after putting forward my own list
of a dozen top bottles on this page.
Most readers agreed that my initial 12 made for a rather tempting line-up.
But there were also plenty of alternative suggestions.
And many readers picked up on my deliberately provocative decision not to include a Coonawarra red in my Dream Team: cabernets from Balnaves, Bowen Estate, and Highbank were all, deservedly included on other people's top-12 lists.
The overriding message from the feedback, though, was this: most of you agreed with me that a modern Australian Dream Team would have to be full of single vineyard, single-region wines rather than mult-region blends - because, as reader Stuart Robinson put it, "they have a litte extra story to tell".
